Summer Celebrations
The Celts celebrate the Sun throughout the year as it moves through the sky and creates the seasons. And today we continue to celebrate the joy of long hours of light and lots of sunshine in summer. Luthnasa, the Celtic holiday of the first Harvest, is at the beginning of August. While the United States celebrates harvest in November, it always seems to me that harvest time itself should be celebrated in summer as the hay is being baled, the corn grows tall and one by one all the crops come in.
It is also the time (usually) of bright stars in the long summer nights. This is the period of The Lion’s Gate to followers of celestial readings. The Celts loved to acknowledge portals and saw opening to the Otherworld in a number of natural phenomena. While the 8/8 Lion’s Gate is not directly attributed to their culture, it is easy to imagine them looking up and seeing Sirius shining brightly and celebrating the Sun in Leo.
It is a time of courage, of empowerment and of awakening.
May your summer be filled with celebration.
May you dance under the magic of the night skies.
May you be filled by the Energy and Light of the stars above.
